Making a Shoe

Every single leather component is carefully selected and cut out by hand to achieve the best result on every pair of Ecco shoes. All components are stitched together by hand to create the upper of the shoe, and the toe and back pieces are shaped by employees with the help of heating and cooling machines.

All shoes produced in Ecco’s own factories are constructed with a PU sole that makes the shoe soft, flexible and light. The sole is injected directly onto the upper via a high technology process in which the upper is placed into a mould and liquid PU is injected into the mould to harden onto the upper. Ecco has developed and perfected the entire production process with this technology, resulting in the unique quality and comfort that is the hallmark of Ecco shoes.

Competent Craftsmanship

Product Development bridges the gap between Design and Production. Shoemakers and engineers from the Product Development department are responsible for converting the ideas of Ecco designers into fully specified prototypes for the end product.

The process requires in-depth knowledge about all the materials required as well as insight into shoe construction and production machinery and methods. Ecco’s product development units in Denmark and Portugal supply the Ecco tanneries and shoe factories with detailed instructions on how to produce materials and shoes.

The ability to make comfortable and outstanding shoes comes from years of experience and training. Therefore, all Ecco employees join Ecco’s training schools before they work in the tanneries and factories, and the whole production process is supervised by experienced technicians.
